Have you ever heard of or played DIXIT game? For those who haven’t here’s link to learn more about it.

It’s a great game for children as well as adults. No matter how many times you have played it you can always come up with some new creative ideas. Recently I’ve been looking for some new energizer which will boost creativity to my team. After some research I’ve realized that actually I own dixit and I can use it! But how?

Here comes same rules:
Prerequisites: Dixit cards (at least the same amount as people in group).

Every person in the group should choose one card. Then give the people approximately 2-3 minutes to think of one similarity between them and the card they’ve chosen. After given time you should ask for a volunteer to start by showing his card to the rest of the team and telling his story. Then the person should choose next player and so on.

If you’d like to make it more difficult:

  1. You can ask the group to think of 2-3 similarities instead of just one.
  2. You can ask participants to think of similarities between the card and other person in the room. Besides the cards you need to prepare pieces of paper with names on it. (Remove names of people who are not present before the exercise). Every person should choose the card and the name (if someone chooses oneself – draw again). The task is to find at least one likeness between the card and the other person. This round can be played in teams who know each other quite well.

This game can be used in various scenarios. First of all, it can be a great team building exercise (sometimes with a lot of laugh) to get to know each other, especially for new teams. Moreover, you can use it as an energizer for some longer events. It can be used also as check-in round during retrospective meeting.  It takes approximately 3 minutes to consider similarities plus 1 minute per person.

Tip: If you do not have your own cards and you’d like to play it in a small team, you can find some on the Internet and print it. Example

What does it give us?

Depends on the goal you’ve set it can give the team a chance to get to know each other better. As you probably know from my previous post it is crucial in terms of team building. Furthermore, it can be an entry before some tough tasks in which the key thing is creativity or thinking out-of-the-box. It will stimulate the brain to think in a different way.

Try to play it in your team or with your friends and leave some comments how it goes.
